Board Game Geek is a social network for gamers who use it to organize, maintain and share their collections of physical board games. It features a database of over 120,000 board games, forums for discussion and trading, and more. Aside from its immense repository of data, BGG functions as a community hub for the hobby to an extent that other online communities can only dream of.
The website provides enthusiasts with a profile where they can list their games and collections, write reviews, comment on errata, news, play logs, design notes, strategy articles, and images; contribute to game-specific discussion forums that feature discussions on variants, expansions, and other topics; purchase games through the site’s marketplace or its linked marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay; trade and sell games with other users; and participate in user- and company-driven giveaways and contests.
To be considered a board game, a game must be played on a tabletop or within a room. Puzzles such as Rush Hour and the Rubik’s Cube are out of scope, although a game with a randomized set-up that results in a different game each time it is played may be in scope (provided that it also satisfies the other criteria).
Additionally, electronic/digital games should be submitted to VideoGameGeek instead of BGG as they are not the best fit for the site; this includes the BGG listing of the board game version of Dark Souls. Once a submission is made, a BGG admin will review the entry and either approve it as-is; edit it based on what they’ve seen elsewhere; add information based on their research; or decline it for a reason they will explain in a note to you.
