While exploring the park one day Judy and Peter Shepherd discover a safari-themed board game called Jumanji. Ignoring the warning that reads “Do not begin unless you intend to finish”, they decide to start playing. They are unaware that this was not a normal board game and when they roll the dice, Alan, now an adult, reappears in their lives.
They have to complete the game and defeat the monsters that they encounter along the way. These include ferocious monkeys, a herd of elephants and rhinos, carnivorous plants and even crocodiles. They must also avoid the dangerous hunter Van Pelt and work together to solve riddles, escape dangers and reach the center of the board before it is too late.
Players take turns rolling two six-sided dice and moving forward the number of spaces shown. Some spaces require the drawing of Jungle Danger cards, some have a timer that ticks down and some have instructions for additional actions such as losing a turn or changing the game’s rules. The first player to arrive at the gameboard center and call out Jumanji wins.
